In Centralblatt für Chirurgie del 1899 sono sintetizzati i risultati dell’autopsia eseguita sul primo uomo operato di gastrectomia: la paziente, una donna tedesca di 58 anni, fu operata dal dott. Schlatter nel 1897 e  sopravvisse quasi due anni.
